The Recent Problems

We have recently been having problems with the delivery of the nightly. We are working very hard on fixing this as soon as possible...

Basically the problems stem from the amount of subscribers we have (in excess of 5,300!). As some of you might know, we had these same problems for the first couple of nights of Sefira (mostly during Chal Hamoed) where only about half of our subscribers were getting the reminder. We were in contact with the staff of textmarks and we were working on fixing the issue. However, we never found a permanent fix, so I decided to have them split the huge list into 4 separate lists. This temporarily solved the problem.

However, this past Motzaei Shabbos, the staff at textmarks thought they found a permanent solution and recombined all the lists into one big one (the ideal setup). The only problem was that it didn't end up working and we experienced similar problems to the ones we originally had. So as of now (June 3, 2008) we split the lists again, and everything should be working perfectly.

It's that simple...

You can use the "widgets" on the right to speed up the sign up process.

FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions):
  • Is this service free?
The text messages we send you [and you send us] are considered ordinary text messages. There is no extra charge. You will need to speak to your service provider if you would like to know the ordinary charge per text. (and: yes, if you have a texting plan - unlimited, 500, 200, etc. - these texts will go according to that plan)
  • Do alerts come on Shabbos or Yom Tov?
We will not send a reminder on Erev Shabbos/Yom Tov. We will send a reminder on Motzaei Shabbos/Yom Tov. Bottom Line: We are based in New York. So whenever 9:30pm or 11:30am fall out at a time when texting is prohibited (i.e. Shabbos or Yom Tov), we will not send it.
  • Is there any way to customize what time I get the text?
We are very sorry, but as of now this feature is not available.
  • Why are the texts coming so early/late?
    There are two possible answers:
    1. We send  the reminder to many cell phones, so it is impossible to send it to everyone at once. Usually the entire sending process takes about a half hour, so if you get it a half hour early or late that would explain it. Also:
    2. Remember the times are all based on Eastern Standard Time. So if you are in a different time zone, the text will come earlier (or later). Hopefully, we will add a timezone differentiation feature soon, but it will probably not come out until Pesach 2009.
  • Is there any way I can contact you?
Yes. Simply send an email to sefirasms@gmail.com and we will try to get back to you as soon as we can.
We would also like to take this opportunity to thank the Textmarks service for making this possible.
